Shoulder Pain

The Common Causes of Shoulder Pain

Even though many people associate chiropractors with back pain, shoulder pain is also a common condition we treat. It is important for everyone to know about some of the causes of shoulder pain so that they can be prepared to seek treatment when necessary.

Overuse injuries, whether from sports or from work routines, may lead to shoulder pain and dysfunction. Swimming and baseball are two sports that involve a repeated overhand throwing motion and can lead to overuse injuries.

Rotator cuff injuries are another common cause of severe shoulder pain. The rotator cuff protects the shoulder joint from injury. If someone suffers a rotator cuff injury, this can lead to pain and irritation. While some people might be told they need surgery to correct a rotator cuff injury, this isn’t always the case. A trained chiropractor has other treatment options available.

Arthritis is an inflammatory condition that causes pain in affected joints, such as the shoulder. Osteoarthritis, a form of arthritis, causes a loss of cartilage over time, allowing the bones to rub together, leading to pain. This can happen throughout the body. However, one of the most common locations is the shoulder. Arthritis in the shoulder can make it hard to lift, throw, or carry heavy objects.
