Introducing Omaha Chiropractor, Dr. Dan Giles

Dr. Dan GilesWhen I was a senior in high school my brother in law was attending Logan College of Chiropractic and I received my first adjustment and learned more about Chiropractic. I thought it was very fascinating and thought about pursuing a career in Chiropractic.

At the time, the thought of 4 years of college and then beginning another 5-year program after that seemed like too much. I opted for 4 years and a degree in computer information systems. I graduated, took a job with IBM Global Services and started flying around the country every week, spending long days hunched over a computer.

During my two years with IBM I started developing numbness and tingling on the front of my left thigh. It kept getting worse, and worse to the point no position was comfortable, and it was becoming impossible to fall asleep. My friends all said it was sciatica. I had never heard of that, so I called my brother-in-law who was now a Chiropractor and he said it didn’t sound like sciatica, but to get it checked out by a Chiropractor. I started going to a Chiropractor and he explained it wasn’t sciatica but it was nerve pain due to dysfunction in my low back, and pelvis. I started getting adjusted and sure enough my leg got better. Soon I was 100% pain free and felt like a huge weight had been lifted. I thought it was amazing that he alleviated all my leg pain without ever touching my leg. I had no back pain, just leg pain, yet he adjusted my low back to fix the leg problem.

Almost two years to the day I started my job, I put in my notice and enrolled in Logan College of Chiropractic. Studying the spine and its relationship to the central nervous system, and ultimately every cell of the human body was a wonderful, eye opening experience and continues to be a strong passion in my life. I feel very fortunate to have the knowledge, skills, and opportunity every day to put my own two hands on another human being and help them to experience better health.

During my time at Logan College of Chiropractic studying Chiropractic I married my beautiful wife Kristy, and we now have a 2-year old son, Jackson, and a 5-month old daughter, Isabelle.

Dr. Trevor Asks some important questions of interest to Omaha residents - Chiropractor Omaha Dr. Trevor Asks...

How come medical doctors don't recommend chiropractic?
That's changing. Years of prejudice and bias are giving way to research showing the benefits of chiropractic care. As more and more Omaha folks seek alternatives to drugs and surgery, more and more medical practitioners are referring their patients to chiropractors.
Do nerves actually get pinched?
Chiropractors recognize two types of nerve disorders involved in subluxation. The least common is a pinched nerve that diminishes nerve supply to an affected organ or tissue. More common is the irritated nerve (facilitative lesion) which overexcites nerve communications to an affected organ or tissue. Chiropractic care has been shown to help with both types.
